Rufous Hummingbird

On Monday, March 17th, the first Rufous Hummingbird visited our backyard to feed on a huckle
berry bush that was only partially open. We immediately set up our feeder to the winter nectar formula and waited. Sure enough, the female hummer returned to bathe in our pond waterfall and drink from the feeder. It’s time to walk the hill on Imperial Trail. The male Rufous have come home to Pacific Spirit Park to delight bird watchers with their acrobatic mating displays.
In another sign of spring (in the early morning of March 22nd) the first
group of 14 passed over our house on their way to the Pacific Spirit Park Heronry. Males and females swooping and touching each other, indicating pairing up for the long nesting period ahead — what a wonderful sight.
Yes, spring is here at last on the Fraser.
