Low Tide Walk – Geologist / Biologist David Cook

9:00 am for 3 – 4 hours

Wear appropriate non-slip footwear. The route will be rocky, damp and slippery with many puddles left by the retreating tide.
Geology of the Vancouver area as seen along Kitsilano Beach & Jericho Beach Park
Meet at Jericho Beach parking lot, the west end of Point Grey Road, which is a cul-de-sac.
We will beach-walk east at low tide from Jericho Beach Park looking at geological forms. We will see giant boulders left by retreating glaciers, 50-million year old coal deposits, old volcano forms and ancient plant fossils. The land around us has been created over the last 100 million years, and unceasing wave action is slowly eating away the beach frontage.
